Language Assistance Services

The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (“IDFPR”) complies with applicable federal civil rights laws and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, disability, or sex. IDFPR does not exclude people or treat them differently because of race, color, national origin, age, disability, or sex.

IDFPR provides free language services assistance to people whose primary language is not English, to be used solely in conjunction with IDFPR services. See the IDFPR Language Access Plan for more information on what language services are available to the public.

IDFPR also provides free aids and services to people with disabilities to communicate effectively with us, such as qualified sign language interpreters.

Language Services

Spanish-Speaking Staff 

IDFPR has staff members fluent in Spanish, including front desk receptionists, who can communicate directly with the Spanish-speaking public. Contact us at FPR.LanguageAccess@illinois.gov and ask to be contacted by a bilingual staff person. If you would like to speak to a designated bilingual Spanish speaking agent immediately regarding professional licensing, you can contact us at 1-800-560-6420. For all other inquiries, please call 1-888-473-4858.

Oral Interpretation

IDFPR can facilitate oral interpretation via telephone or in-person, IDFPR can provide a three-way phone call. IDFPR has designated bilingual Spanish speaking staff and a designated language access line. For professional licensing inquiries please contact us at 1-800-560-6420. For all other inquiries, please call 1-888-473-4858.

In-Person Interpretation

To request on-site and/or virtual interpretation at events hosted by IDFPR, please submit your requests to FPR.LanguageAccess@illinois.gov at least four to six weeks in advance of the scheduled event.

Written Translation

IDFPR can translate documents into languages other than English. For larger documents, such as reports, brochures, fact sheets, etc., contact please email your requests to FPR.LanguageAccess@illinois.gov. Requests for written translation take at least two to four weeks to complete. You can find existing translated documents on the IDFPR website.

Services for People with Disabilities

Sign Language Interpretation

IDFPR can provide interpretation services in American Sign Language (ASL) for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. To request ASL services please email FPR.LanguageAccess@illinois.gov. Requests for ASL interpretation should be made at least four weeks prior to when the services are needed.

Text-Based Assistive Devices

IDFPR can accept calls from individuals who use auxiliary aids and services for people with hearing impairments, including teletype (TTY) and telecommunications device for the deaf (TDD). Individuals using a TTY can reach IDFPR at 866-325-4949. Illinois also has the Illinois Relay Center, a free service available 24 hours a day and seven days a week that allows people who are deaf, hard of hearing, speech-disabled, or deaf-blind to place and receive calls to standard telephone users via a keyboard or assistive device.

Complaints and Grievances

If you believe IDFPR has failed to provide the services noted above, denied you the benefits of the IDFPR Language Access Plan, or discriminated in another way on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, disability, or sex, a grievance can be filed with the IDFPR equal employment officer. An official Complaint Form must be filed within six months of the alleged denial and can be found here. Grievances can be filed by email at FPR.EEO@illinois.gov or mailed to:
